Josh Comes Through as Promised for Brownney Racing at Kentucky.

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Josh Lilly lead every lap except the last lap of stage 1 and then didn't lead a single lap in stage 2 until the last lap.

It was a tough night overall for Brownney Racing. Team Engineer, Nathan Brown missed the mark in strategy tonight and lead most of the team off in a bad direction. The first stage was marked by Josh flying around the track with no regard to fuel, hoping for a caution which never came and his teammates saving too much fuel back in p12-p14 hoping everyone would run out. Most of the field never did.

Evan Kinney recovered with a strong start to stage 2 driving into the top 5 mitigating the points damage to Mike VanHouten who played stage 1 perfectly capturing 5 stage points in addition to a lap lead point, and a qualifying point. It was an 8 point swing in points that could have been worse if Evan hadn't recovered.

Kevin Becker struggled with traffic in stage 2 but was running 8th at the time of an technical issues effectively ending his race.

Nathan Brown also struggled with traffic, short pitted too early, lost too much time on pit road and eventually settled for 8th after Kevin's issues cost him.

Fortunately Josh Lilly executed brilliantly after running out of fuel in stage 1. He restarted p13 and at the time of pit stops he was p8 only 3 seconds off the lead. The short pit and excellent stop propelled him up into second, chasing his Dad, Joey Stiers. Josh had the pace to hold onto second and once the tires equalized started running Joey down. A hard charging Lane Hosler had other plans though.

Lane got around Josh with less than 10 laps to go and set sail after Joey. Relentless pressure by Lane let Josh close right up to the pair of them though as he had front row seats to the show Lane and Joey were about to put on.

Every straightaway, Lane was inside Joey's ass ... with an opportunity to wreck him, yet kept it clean. A decision he surely regrets now.

"I regret not punting Joey" - Lane Hosler
"I owed from Nashville a few seasons back" - Joey Stiers

Some will say the pressure of losing out to Lane and Brownney Racing hotshot, Josh , got to Joey though as he ran Lane into the wall on the final corner of the race letting Josh narrowly escape for the win.

Tune in next week for the Cleanracing.net championship as Evan looks to avoid trouble and hold off a hard charging Mike VanHouten.
