Evan Kinney got off to a hot start with his 4th career pole but settled in third for most of the first part of the first stage of the race as Brownney Racing's Josh Lilly settled into second. Kevin Becker ran comfortably in the top 10 most of the first stage and Nathan Brown started his march from the back after being hampered with technical issues.
While Josh looked like the heavy favorite early, his night was ended prematurely in heartbreak on lap 47 after being involved in a wreck that also collected Evan. Evan managed to survive and continue with minor damage.
Nathan was one of the few cars that took tires and charged from 12th to 2nd over the course of the final laps of the first stage to recover from his early technical issues. Evan held on with older tires to finish 4th. Kevin finished stage one in 8th.
At the start of the second stage, Evan and Kevin found themselves restarting 14th and 15th to fix damage and take tires. Nathan restarted from 4th and was able to settle into 2nd for most of the stage. A hard charge by Evan had him sitting in third staring at Nathan's bumper just 30 laps into the final run while Kevin took a more cool and collected approach to be running 5th. As the laps wound down it appeared as if Brownney Racing was going to take home a very solid 2nd, 3rd and 4th losing out to Lane Hosler when a caution came out with 20 to go setting up a dramatic finish.
Tragedy struck Lane during the ensuing caution as he was black flagged for an illegal passing of the pace car leaving the race very wide open between Brownney Racing teammates and league legend, Joey Stiers.
On the final restart, Nathan had the jump into turn 1 but was forced to out brake a hard charging Joey as Evan was asleep at the wheel letting Joey get a free shot on Evan's Brownney Racing stablemate. Nathan got into the brakes too hard as a result, sending his truck sideways and letting Joey and Evan scoot by. Meanwhile Kevin was fighting for his life in 5th position as he got into the gas too hard out of turn 4 looping his chevy around but not collecting damage.
Evan spent the next 10 laps ferociously dogging Joey for the lead and was finally able to make way with 7 to go. Nate followed through a few laps later securing the 1-2 finish for Brownney Racing. This was Evan's 9th career win. Kevin managed to bring it home in 6th despite the late spin, marking a solid night for him on a track he describes as a struggle.
Next week we head to Kentucky where Josh dominated last time we were here. We expect his luck to change any week now!
